Middlebury tops Union in battle of men’s lacrosse unbeatens, 15-9

AUSTIN, Texas. – In a matchup of nationally ranked and unbeaten NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse teams, 11th-ranked Middlebury bested fifth-ranked Union, 15-9, at Caven Lacrosse Center on Tuesday.

Middlebury (5-0 overall) scored four times in the first quarter and five times in the second to take a 9-3 halftime lead.

The Panthers used a balanced attack to top the Dutchmen, with 11 different players scoring a goal.

Patrick Jamin scored two goals and had an assist for Middlebury, while William Ryan and Tom Conley and Russell Thorndike all scored twice. Billy Curtis finished with a goal and three assists for the Panthers. Tyler Forbes, Will Zink, Jake Peluso, J.D. Farkas, Bobby Hendry and Cooper DeMallie also scored for Middlebury.

Zach Davis scored four goals to lead Union, while Michael Shaw, Emmett Lyne and Jake Mabardy all had a goal and an assist. Peter Burnes and Peter Kip also scored for the Dutchmen, who slipped to 5-1 overall.

Hayden Kern finished with 11 saves for Middlebury, which is scheduled to travel to Bates College on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest.

Dan Donahue made 14 saves for Union, which returns home Saturday to host seventh-ranked St. Lawrence at 1 p.m. at Frank Bailey Field.
