Soures collects 200th career point, rallies Siena women’s lacrosse past Iona in MAAC opener

Siena’s Mary Soures scored six goals Saturday against Iona and reached 200 career points.

NEW ROCHELLE — Mary Soures hit a milestone, and the Siena women’s lacrosse team rallied to beat Iona 13-9 in the MAAC opener for both teams at Mazzella Field.

Soures became the second Siena women’s lacrosse player to reach 200 career points with a six-goal effort. Nicole McNelly is the Saints’ all-time leading scorer with 227 points.

The Saints (1-0 MAAC, 6-4 overall) trailed 704 with 3:44 left in the second quarter. Katy Wangness started a 4-0 Siena run on a goal with 40 seconds left in the second. Soures scored twice, and Kelly Logue once to give Siena an 8-7 lead.

Soures’ sixth goal 15 seconds into the fourth quarter gave Siena a 10-9 lead. Wangness, Logue and Jordan Bentley also scored in the final quarter as the Saints kept the Gaels (0-1, 6-3) off the board.

The Saints are back in action Wednesday when they host Marist at Hickey Field.
