BURLINGTON, Vt. — A slow start was problematic for UAlbany in a 14-7 loss to Vermont on Saturday in America East men’s lacrosse action. It was the Catamounts’ eighth consecutive win over the Great Danes.
The two-time defending league-champion Catamounts took a 5-0 lead in the first quarter. Brock Haley, a first-team all-conference attackman last year, led the charge with three goals. He finished with six goals and two assists.
UAlbany (1-1 conference, 2-5 overall) never got closer than four goals, at 6-2 with 1:45 left in the second quarter.
Vermont finished with a sizable advantage in ground balls, 28-13, and faceoffs, 19-6.
Freshman attackman Silas Richmond led the Great Danes with two goals and two assists. Graydon Hogg added two goals and one assist. Jack VanValkenburgh made 11 saves.
“Certainly disappointing to prepare well all week and come away with a loss,” UAlbany coach Scott Marr said in a school release. “Vermont is a very good team, and it is unfortunate that we did not play our best.”
UAlbany hosts UMBC next Saturday.
