DUANESBURG – An estimated 200 chickens and 20 pigs were killed in a weekend Duanesburg fire, Schenectady County Sheriff’s officials said Monday.
The fire was reported just before 11 p.m. at 2978 Duanesburg Churches Road in Duanesburg, officials said. Dispatchers received a call then for a barn on fire there.
The owner of the farm reported the barn had been occupied with livestock. Some animals were able to escape the blaze, but the owners believed 200 chickens and 20 pigs died, officials said.
Several agencies responded to fight the blaze. The barn was a complete loss.
The cause of the fire remained unknown Monday, officials said. The investigation continued.
Responding to assist were the Schenectady County Fire Investigations team, New York State Police, Duanesburg Ambulance, and fire departments from Mariaville, Duanesburg, Delanson, Plotterkill and the town of Florida.
