SPORTS BRIEFS – Union College hockey junior defenseman Nic Petruolo has entered the NCAA transfer portal.
The move was first reported by the Gopher Puck Live transfer portal website.
Petruolo played in 29 games this season and had seven assists. He had a two-assist game in the 6-0 Capital District Mayor’s Cup win over RPI on Jan. 28.
In his first season last year, Petruolo had a goal and five assists in 27 games.
Petruolo has two years of eligibility remaining.
Audino Football Camps set
The John Audino Football Camps will take place in mid-July at La Salle Institute.
There will be three camps. The Air Assault Passing Academy will be July 11-13 from 6-8 p.m. It’s for players entering grades 7-12. The cost is $100.00.
The Youth Football Camp will occur July 17-20 from 6-8:30 p.m. It will be full contact and for players entering grades 3-6. The cost is $125.00.
A Modified/JV Football Camp will also be July 17-20 from 6-8:30 p.m. It will be full contact and for players entering grades 7-10. The cost is $150.00.

ValleyCats to have open house
The Tri-City ValleyCats will be hosting an Opening Day Open House at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Thursday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. to celebrate the return of baseball.
The ValleyCats will also begin selling individual game tickets for the 2023 Frontier League season.
The day’s full slate of MLB games will be on, refreshments will be available and the Hudson Valley Vikings will face the SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves. Hot dogs will be available from 12-2 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.
The team will be giving away prizes consisting of ValleyCats experiences and memorabilia every hour on the hour, starting at 11 a.m., with the final giveaway at 5 p.m.
The ValleyCats also announced the return of the May Ballpark Pass. For $40, fans not only receive tickets to all ValleyCats May home games, including Opening Day, but will also receive free admission to all ValleyCats spring training games. The ValleyCats’ full spring training schedule will be announced at a later date.

Russell Sage baseball’s Espinal honored
Russell Sage College sophomore outfielder and Shenendehowa High School graduate Brendan Espinal was named Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week.
Espinal batted .440 (11 for 25) in five games last week. He had four RBIs and scored seven runs.
