BUFFALO — Zac Schuette scored the game-winning goal with 12 seconds remaining in the first overtime period as Siena men’s lacrosse pulled out a see-saw 10-9 win over Canisius in a MAAC contest on Wednesday.

Siena (2-2 MAAC, 4-4 overall) goalie Chris Yanchoris made a save on Canisius’ Nathan Conry with 47 seconds left in overtime to set the stage for Schuette to score the winning goal as the Saints snapped a two-game losing skid.

Schuette’s game-winner was his third goal of the day, to go along with a pair of assists. George Rusnak added two goals for the Saints, who also got goals from Pratt Reynolds, Jack Cavaioli, Christian Watts, Liam Hassett and Rocco Santillo. Yanchoris was a rock in goal, finishing with 20 saves.

In a back-and-forth matchup, Siena led 8-7 heading into the fourth quarter, with Canisius’ Keegan Kozack tying it up two minutes into the period. Schuette’s second goal of the game gave Siena a 9-8 lead with 9:49 to play, but Canisius knotted it up 1:19 later when Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School graduate Kevin Carney picked up his second goal of the day.

Neither team could break the tie for the remainder of regulation, with Hassett denied by Canisius goalie Tommy Kunz just before the final horn.

Siena will be back in action Saturday when the Saints host Wagner for a 3 p.m. MAAC matchup at Hickey Field in Loudonville.
