
WEEKEND PLANS – There’s no shortage of things to do in the Capital Region, whether you’re looking for live music, films, theater, games or festivals.
If you’re in need of a few ideas for your weekend plans, we’ve rounded up a few of the best bets from around the area.
Here’s a look at what’s going on:
Rose to play Skidmore
Indie-rock singer, songwriter and musician Caroline Rose returns to Skidmore on Friday to kick off her North American tour, which follows the release of “The Art of Forgetting,” last week.
The album is the artist’s fifth release, following 2020’s “Superstar” and delves into themes of healing and memory.
Rose is known for her witty humor and pop sensibility and played Albany’s PearlPalooza in 2018. Friday’s show kicks off at 8 p.m. at the Arthur Zankel Music Center. Tickets are $25 for the general public and $15 for Skidmore community members. Tickets are available at tix.com.
April Fool’s at Proctors
The 8th Step at Proctors is celebrating April Fool’s early with an ensemble of singer-songwriters performing funny songs in the round.
The Friday show features five folk artists – David Buskin, Robin Batteau, Christine Lavin, Shanna in a Dress and John Forster – on stage at once. They’ll take turns accompanying each other and paying tribute to comedy-music icons Tom Lehrer and Cheryl Wheeler. It starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30-$50. For more information visit 8thstep.org.
College lacrosse doubleheader
The Siena men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will play home games back-to-back on Saturday afternoon at Hickey Field on the Siena campus in Loudonville.
The action starts with the women’s game at noon as Siena hosts its Senior Day game against Mount St. Mary’s. Siena is off to a 7-4 start overall and is 2-0 in MAAC play, having kicked off their conference slate with wins over Iona and Marist.
At 3 p.m., the Siena men’s team will play host to Wagner in a MAAC contest. The Saints are coming off a dramatic 10-9 overtime win on Wednesday on the road against Canisius.
The UAlbany men also play at home on Saturday at 3 p.m., with the Great Danes looking to get to 2-1 in America East play when they welcome UMBC to Tom & Mary Casey Stadium.
Something’s brewing in Schenectady
Drink Schenectady, a pop-up event hosted by the Capital Craft Beverage Trail is on tap for Saturday at the Museum of Innovation and Science, in Schenectady.
From 6-9 p.m., there will be libations to sample from local breweries including Albany Distilling Company, Frog Alley Brewing Company, Schenectady Distilling Company, Wolf Hollow Brewing Company and others.
Attendees can also explore miSci’s exhibits. Tickets are $45 for general admission at the door and $5 for designated drivers. For more information visit Drink Schenectady 2023 on Facebook.
Comedy at the Glove Theatre
Comedian and Mayfield native Tommy McClellan-Willard makes his way back to The Glove Theatre on Saturday for a show called “1942.”
The show, which will be filmed and eventually turned into his first comedy special, is in honor of his late grandmother, Carolyn Bates.
The Philadelphia resident has appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and his comedy album “Life Skills” was a bestseller on Amazon. The 18 and up show starts at 7 p.m., Saturday and general admission tickets start at $20. For more information visit theglovetheatre.com.
