High schools: Duanesburg baseball outduels Fort Plain 1-0

HIGH SCHOOLS – Both pitchers struck out 16, but only one of them got a run in support, as Duanesburg’s Peyton Fall outdueled Fort Plain’s Nalzon Henry for a 1-0 victory in Western Athletic Conference baseball on Monday.

The Eagles scored in the first inning when Michael Leak came home on a passed ball. Fall gave up just one hit, and Henry gave up two.

Eric Zelezniak hit a two-run home run and struck out 13 Middleburgh batters as Galway shut out the Knights 7-0. Josh Loveless had two base hits for Galway.

Four Fonda-Fultonville pitchers combined on a five-inning no-hitter as Fonda blanked Mayfield 25-0.Logan Yaggle drove in four runs for Fonda.

SHEN BLANKS SCHENECTADY

Morgan Smith went 3 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and struck out 14 batters in five innings as Shenendehowa blanked Schenectady 18-0 in Suburban Council softball.

Duanesburg broke open a close game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on the way to a 13-1 Western Athletic Conference win over Fort Plain.

The Eagles’ Allison Mienaltowski went 4 for 4 with a double and five RBIs  at the plate and struck out 11 Fort Plain batters, and Shannon Zink had a double and a triple. Marissa Wilder had a double and a single for the Hilltoppers, and Madison Delgado hit two singles.

Galway got off to a quick start with four runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Middleburgh 13-4. Amber Kolpakas was 3 for 4 with a double for Galway, and Courtney Smith had two singles, including one that drove in two runs in the first.

SCOTIA FALLS TO QUEENSBURY

Queensbury rolled past Scotia-Glenville 23-5 in Foothills Council girls’ lacrosse, as Kaitlyn Barton scored five goals for the Spartans, and Meredith Montgomery and Kendal Kelsey each scored four. Karaline McCarthy had four goals and one assist for the Tartans.

Ava Reynolds scored five goals, and Rowan DeMarco and Katie Morris each scored four as South Glens Falls topped Johnstown 21-6.

Ella Blesi and Caroline Kogut each scored five goals to lead Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to an 18-5 Suburban Council victory over Averill Park. MK Lescault had six points on two goals and four assists for the Spartans.

Elizabeth Schafer scored seven goals and assisted on four as Guilderland defeated Ballston Spa 15-1. Nora Manion and Katie Fletcher scored for the Scotties.

In the Wasaren League, Hoosick Falls/Tamarac built a 13-1 halftime lead over Emma Willard and went on to win 16-3.
