Dan Larson’s streak of Boston Marathon finishes reached 48 on Monday.

The 71-year-old retired physician from Queensbury completed the 26.2-mile course in 4:23:43 on Monday, his 53rd overall Boston finish from 54 starts going back to his days as an undergrad at Yale University.

In 2020, the Scotia native had been on the verge of becoming the fourth person in the history of the race — first run in 1897 — to complete Boston 50 times, when the COVID-19 pandemic intervened. After some deliberation, it was determined that runners who finished a virtual Boston Marathon during a designated 10-day window that year would keep personal streaks such as Larson’s intact.

So he ran six 4.4-mile loops around Brant Lake and submitted his official time to hit the magic 50.

On Monday, he hit the half in 2:08:01 and ran the final mile in 10:08.

Larson managed to keep his mile pace under 10 minutes for the race, at 9:57.

ANOTHER ONE FOR GEESLER

Speaking of lengthy history with this race, 64-year-old John Geesler of St. Johnsville finished in 4:26:27.

Like Larson, he’s a member of the Quarter Century Club recognizing those who have completed Boston at least 25 times.

Geesler is up around 35 finishes now.

SOME SUB-3:00 TIMES

As usual, I put together a list of Capital Region runners based on a zip code search of the entry list, and off that search list we had 12 runners crack the three-hour mark, led by 39-year-old Dan McGrath of Whitehall in 2:33:01.

The sub-2:40 group included Daryn Hutchings of Saratoga Springs (2:34:09), John Longo of Waterford (2:35:34), Thomas O’Grady of Slingerlands (2:35:57) and 22-year-old Cameron Davis of Delmar (2:36:51).

Rounding out the list were Robert Ordish of Schenectady (2:45:40), Alexander Perry of Albany (2:45:46), Michael Ventimiglia of Queensbury (2:57:05), Richard Homenick of Niskayuna (2:58:15), Jonathan Louden of Clifton Park (2:58:19), Bradley Lewis of Troy (2:58:27) and David Troischt of Mechanicville (2:58:31).

The 37-year-old O’Grady is a Boston veteran who has been under 2:30 twice, 2:28:39 in 2018 and 2:29:27 in 2013.

DEGRAZIA POSTS 4:40

Martha Degrazia, a 72-year-old from Slingerlands with a long list of achievements at the masters level, including multiple age-group top-threes at Boston and a first place at the New York City Marathon, finished in 4:40:59.

In a text, she said her time was “what I expected given my training this year and the day,” referring to the rainy and windy conditions.

“But all good felt great the whole time and just accept where I am each year …

“Qualified for next year but need to think about that!”
