LOOKING AHEAD – With a new week underway, here are five events and news items our team of reporters are tracking.
SCHOOL BUDGET VOTES
Voters will head to the polls on Tuesday throughout the region in a slew of proposed school budget and school board votes. The Schenectady City School District is proposing approximately $570 million in total spending on May 16, with a proposed $265 million school budget and a $300 million capital project. The budget does not include a tax levy increase. The proposed $107.8 million Niskayuna Central School District spending plan includes a 2.34% tax levy increase, below the 2.75% tax cap. Polls in Schenectady will be open from noon to 9:00 p.m. at eight district locations, while Niskayuna polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the high school.

TREVOR NOAH TO STOP IN SCHENECTADY ON COMEDY TOUR
Comedian Trevor Noah heads to Schenectady this weekend for back-to-back performances at Proctors as part of his “Off The Record” world tour.
Noah hosted the Emmy Award-winning “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central for seven years and has performed sold-out stand-up comedy shows across the globe. He’s also the author of “Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood,” and has written and starred in several comedy specials, including the Grammy-nominated “Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia.”
He’s set to perform at 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $44.50 – $250.00. For more information visit proctors.org.

EDDY MEET RETURNS
The William F. Eddy Jr. Memorial Track and Field Meet will be contested for the first time since 2019 on Saturday at Schenectady High School.
The Eddy Meet, hosted by the Schenectady Police Benevolent Association, has long been one of the premier meets on the regional high school track and field calendar, but COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have led to the cancellation of the event for each of the last three years.
The meet began in 1941 and ran every year through 2019, with the exception of 1996, when an early-morning snowfall forced its cancellation.
Competition starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday.

BENEFIT HELD FOR DEE MARSHALL
A fundraiser for cancer fighter Dee Marshall will be held at Johnstown’s Loyal Order of the Moose starting at 2 p.m. Saturday on 109 South Comrie Avenue. Marshall was recently diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. The disease has been deemed invasive at this point. Music by DJ Jurassic Jamz and food will be provided. Raffle prizes include a booze basket, a 58-inch smart TV, locally produced wooden cooler and a photography session with Mechanicville-based Hayleigh Nikayla,

AMSTERDAM SPRING FLING
Amsterdam’s Spring Fling Festival will return to downtown Main Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. The city’s first outdoor festival of the season will be in full bloom with bounce houses, games, arts and crafts, food and over 100 vendors. Bobby Motyl will hit the deck DJing from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. before getting his licks in live on guitar from 2:30 to 5 p.m. The family friendly event is open to the public and free to attend.
