Amsterdam police seek information on reported robbery of pedestrian on Monday morning

AMSTERDAM — Amsterdam police are seeking the public’s help after an adult male was allegedly robbed while walking in the area of Hawk Street and Vrooman Avenue around 10 a.m. on Monday.

The victim told police the suspect approached them with a handgun and demanded their wallet, according to Lt. Joseph Spencer, public information officer for city police.

The suspect allegedly removed an undisclosed quantity of cash from the wallet before fleeing the area. The wallet was left with the victim.

Police learned of the alleged incident when it was reported by the victim around two hours later.

The victim described the suspect as a male wearing a blue shirt, khaki pants and a black face mask.

Police are seeking information regarding the incident and surveillance footage between 9:20 a.m. and 9:55 a.m. from the area where it allegedly occurred, including surrounding streets.

“At this time there are no other witnesses to this incident, but we will be canvassing for anyone with any information from seeing anything in this area this morning,” Spencer said.

There is not believed to be any threat to the public at this time, according to Spencer.
