HIGH SCHOOLS – After spotting Mechanicville a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, Ichabod Crane cruised to a 10-2 victory in the Section II Class B softball tournament semifinals.
Brianna Blake’s two-run homer gave Mechanicville the lead. But Ava Heffner tied it in the bottom of the first on a two-run blast.
Ichabod Crane took the lead in the second on Gabriella Wendelken’s sacrifice fly. The Riders scored seven runs over their final three innings. They had three-run innings in the fourth and sixth.
Kari Graziano led Ichabod Crane with three hits, including a double. She also struck out nine. Makayla Walsh had two hits and two RBIs, Emma Holmberg had two singles and Abbey Milazzo drove in two runs.
The Riders will take on Glens Falls in Thursday’s championship game at 5 p.m. at Luther Forest Athletic Fields. Glens Falls cruised to a 16-4 win over Tamarac. Izzy Johnson hit a three-run homer for Glens Falls.
Chatham and Berne-Knox-Westerlo will meet in Thursday’s Class C title contest at 5 p.m. at Luther Forest Athletic Fields. Chatham edged Berne-Knox-Westerlo 10-9, while Greenwich defeated Stillwater 14-3.
In Class D, Sierra Phillips homered as Salem got past Fort Ann 7-6, while Argyle downed Germantown 12-2. Salem takes on Germantown at 5 p.m. Thursday at Moreau Rec.
