Man found partially pinned under lawnmower in Mayfield creek, later pronounced dead

TOWN OF MAYFIELD — Police responded to a call regarding a man found partially pinned under a lawnmower in the Kennyetto Creek on Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The 79-year-old man, whose identity hasn’t been released, was provided CPR and sent to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam after being located behind Great Sacandaga Brewing Company around 2:20 p.m. He was later pronounced dead.

His cause of death hasn’t yet been determined, said state police spokesperson Stephanie O’Neil.

State police are the lead agency on the case. Emergency responders from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Perth Volunteer Fire Co, Broadalbin-Kennyetto Fire Company, the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps Inc., state Department of Environmental Conservation and state fire assisted on the scene.

State police expect more information to be released after the family of deceased is fully notified.

There is no immediate threat to the public, according to O’Neil.
