Niskayuna Police confirm body pulled from Mohawk River Thursday evening

NISKAYUNA – Niskayuna police have confirmed that they did retrieve a body from the Mohawk River on Thursday night near Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.

In a Friday press release, police said they responded at 6:36 p.m. to a call of a possible human body floating in the Mohawk River. Following a search by multiple police and fire agencies a human body was recovered from the water, according to a press release from the Niskayuna Police Department.

Police have not identified the person.

Pat Rotchford, a fisherman from Colonie, posted on Facebook that while out on the Mohawk River with his son Thursday night they discovered the body.

Rotchford has not responded to a request for comment. However, in comments on the post Rotchford said he was just trolling along on his boat when he saw something floating. He said he  did not see the face of the person in the water.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and no further comment would be available. Niskayuna police is asking any other witnesses who have not already spoken to police to contact Det. Sgt. John Connor at 518-386-4598.

NISKAYUNA — A man was found dead in the Mohawk River thursday by a fisherman, according to a social media post by the fisherman.

The body was discovered in the river in the vicinity of Knolls Atomic Power Lab on River Road, according to a Facebook post by Pat Rotchford.

Rotchford and Niskayuna police haven’t immediately responded to a request for comment. A state police spokesperson said that Niskayuna police and the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office were the “responding agencies.”

Schenectady County Undersheriff Jim Barrett wouldn’t confirm whether or not a body was found in the Mohawk River. He said that the matter is under investigation.

“We can’t comment on it at this point ” said Barrett.
