CRESTWOOD, Ill. — The Windy City ThunderBolts held the Tri-City ValleyCats scoreless through five innings and went on to win 8-2 on Thursday at Ozinga Field, taking the season series 2-1.
The ValleyCats’ Andrew Edwards was solid through the first two innings, allowing just two baserunners, but Windy City opened the scoring in the third, as Paul Coumoulos and Jake Boone worked back-to-back one-out walks and Bren Spillane doubled in both runners.
Dan Robinson added an RBI single to put the ThunderBolts ahead 3-0.
Tri-City got on the board in the sixth, as Josh Broughton led off with a walk, moved to second on a wild pitch and was driven in on a single from Cito Culver, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
The ThunderBolts added two runs in the bottom of the inning, on an RBI single by Carson Matthews and an error.
Windy City put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the eighth.
