NISKAYUNA – Niskayuna police have confirmed that they did retrieve a body from the Mohawk River on Thursday night near Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory.
In a Friday press release, police said they responded at 6:36 p.m. to a call of a possible human body floating in the Mohawk River. Following a search by multiple police and fire agencies a human body was recovered from the water, according to a press release from the Niskayuna Police Department.
Police have not identified the person.
Pat Rotchford, a fisherman from Colonie, posted on Facebook that while out on the Mohawk River with his son Thursday night they discovered the body.
Rotchford has not responded to a request for comment. However, in comments on the post Rotchford said he was just trolling along on his boat when he saw something floating. He said he did not see the face of the person in the water.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and no further comment would be available. Niskayuna police is asking any other witnesses who have not already spoken to police to contact Det. Sgt. John Connor at 518-386-4598.
