ALBANY Albany Empire owner Antonio Brown made it to the field for the team’s game against the Fayetteville Mustangs on Saturday at MVP Arena. But he didn’t play.

Brown, who was expected to play, appeared twice, during halftime to pose for photos with fans in the stands, and at the end of third quarter when T-shirts were being tossed into the stands.

The Empire fell to 1-5 after a 49-27 loss to the Mustangs.

NewsChannel 13 sports director Rodger Wyland tweeted that the reason Brown wasn’t on the 21-man active roster was because the paperwork related to his physical did not go through in time.

Mustangs quarterback Rakeem Cato was 20 of 33 for 214 yards and six touchdown passes.

Kenny Starks, Fabian Guerra and Roland Rivers III scored rushing touchdowns for the Empire. Noland Bryant had a TD reception.

Rivers, the Empire’s quarterback, completed 14 of 22 passes for just 96 yards.

The game marked the debut of Pete Porcelli as the Empire’s head coach.

The Empire return to action June 9 at the Orlando Predators.
