SCHENECTADY – A woman’s death early Sunday is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

Police described the woman as in her 40s. Her identity was being withheld pending notification of family.

Police responded at 5:18 Sunday morning to 1030 Pleasant St. for a report of a woman in need of medical attention, police said.

Members of the Schenectady Fire Department and police officers found the woman unconscious.

“The female was pronounced deceased on scene,” police said in a release, “and at this time Schenectady Police detectives are investigating the case as a homicide.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the department’s tips line at 518-788-6566.

The case comes less than a week after Philomen L. Henry, 30, of 953 Crane St., was found shot and killed at her residence May 22. The scene of Henry’s death and of Sunday’s homicide are less than a quarter mile apart.

Police responded to her residence late that morning to check on someone’s welfare. Officers arrived and found Henry and that she had been shot, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department.

No arrests have been made in Henry’s death. Police have also asked anyone with information in her death to contact the tips line.
