Troy softball bats get hot early in regional win: High Schools

HIGH SCHOOLS – Troy scored six runs in the first inning and three in the seventh to earn a 9-0 shutout of Section 3’s Jamesville-DeWitt in a Class A softball state regional game Thursday.

Gianna Barringer had a two-run double and a sacrifice fly for Troy (20-4), which next plays Section 10’s Massena in a regional final at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Luther Forest Athletic Fields. Madison Schmidt added an RBI single and two runs, while Ava Salvaggio had an RBI single and two runs. Olivia DeCitise struck out 12 and threw a one-hitter.


Hartford/Fort Edward scored six runs in the second inning en route to a five-inning, 12-1 win over Lake Placid in a Class D state regional baseball game.

Hartford/Fort Edward plays Section 10’s Parishville-Hopkinton in the regional final at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shuttleworth Park.

In a Class B regional, Section 10’s Salmon River edged Ichabod Crane 8-7 in 10 innings.
