Longballs lead Empire State Greys past Tri-City ValleyCats

TROY — The Empire State Greys mashed three home runs en route to a 9-3 victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats in Frontier League action on Friday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Luis Atiles went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, and his solo homer in the third inning kicked off Empire State’s scoring. Josh Sears went 3 for 5 and belted a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Jordan Scott connected on a solo shot in the fourth.

The two four hitters in Empire State’s lineup — Atiles, Josue Herrera, Sears and Scott — were a combined 11 for 18 with three home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs scored.

All of the ValleyCats’ scoring came courtesy of Carson McCusker’s bat. McCusker hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning and added an RBI double in the eighth.

The ValleyCats (9-10) and Greys (6-12) will meet again Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
