SCHENECTADY – A city man was sentenced this week to 18 years in prison after he admitted to raping a child under the age of 13, Schenectady County District Attorney’s officials said.
Keith Solana, 28, pleaded guilty earlier to one count of first-degree rape.
Solana then admitted to raping a child, whom he knew from the community, prosecutors said.
On the day of the offense, the victim had been walking with a family friend to a local business, when the victim encountered Solana, who then walked with them to their destination, police said.
At the business, the family friend went inside, while the victim stayed outside, prosecutors said. Solana then offered for both to go back to his apartment. The victim went and then Solana raped her in the residence’s basement.
Cameras from the business placed Solana with the victim there and captured them walking toward his apartment, prosecutors said.
Schenectady Youth Aide Bureau Detective Peter Vorret investigated. The victim was interviewed at the Schenectady Child Advocacy Center, where the child disclosed the sexual assault.
Judge Tatiana Coffinger sentenced Solana. Assistant District Attorney Maria Apruzzese prosecuted. Solana was represented by attorney John Della Ratta.
