Niskayuna girls win at Voorheesville Blackbird Invitational — School cross country

The Niskayuna girls’ cross country team placed three runners in the top 10 Saturday to win the Varsity Girls Division 1 title of the Voorheesville Blackbird Invitational.

Mary Kate Cestaro was Niskayuna’s top runner, finishing third in 20:48.8. Allison Boller was fifth in 21:02.7, and Juliana Sciortino came in sixth in 21:14.4. Niskayuna finished with 43 points.

Guilderland, led by first-place finisher Addison Vellekoop (19:30.7), was second with 56 points. Ballston Spa was third with 83 points.

Guilderland won the Varsity Boys Division 1 title, edging Colonie 61-67. Colonie’s Owen Connelly won the race in 16:43.8. Guilderland’s William Smitas (16:49.8) and Aakash Iyer (16:55.6) finished second and third, respectively.

In the varsity Division 2s, the Fonda-Fultonville boys and Broadalbin-Perth girls were the champions. Fonda-Fultonville had 43 points, and Broadalbin-Perth had 61.

Fonda-Fultonville placed three runners in the top 10 — Mathieu Dettenreider (third, 18:11.4), Ty Sanges (eighth, 18:56.4) and Joey Susi (10th, 19:10.0).

Broadalbin-Perth had two top-10 finishers — Brooklyn Vasquez (23:35.8) and Laina Frasier (10th, 23:38.6).
