Modified rookie Jeremy Slosek and Empire Super Sprint driver Matt Farnham were in the right place at the right time during the held-over Aug. 4 features Friday night at Utica-Rome Speedway.

Slosek grabbed the lead on lap 14 before Rocky Warner powered to the front five laps later. Warner was cruising well ahead of the field when sparks began showing behind his modified. Warner pulled to the infield with five laps to go, turning the lead back over to Slosek for the final five laps to secure the first modified victory of his career.

Alex Yankowski slipped past early race leader JaMike Sowle with four laps to go for a runner-up finish and Bobby Hackel IV and Pat Ward grabbed fourth and fifth respectively.

For Farnham, he was running a distant second to Danny Varin in the 25-lap ESS A-main when Varin ran out of fuel a half-lap away from the checkered flag.

Farnham charged into the lead to claim the victory. Varin coasted around to the finish line for a fourth-place finish as Jordan Thomas and Shawn Donath caught and passed Varin between the fourth turn and the finish line to finish second and third respectively.

The ESS A-Main went under the red flag for an extended time as Paulie Colagiovanni slid off turns three and four and ended deep in a wooded area off turn four. Colagiovanni was uninjured in the accident.

Matt Janczuk locked up his 602 Crate Sportsman track championship with his eighth straight victory in the 25-lap feature. Blaine Klinger finished second followed by Mike Richmond, Payton Talbot and Allan Hodge.

Jonny Feagles overtook Tyler Bobar with 11 laps to go and pulled away to his second-straight Limited Sportsman feature win at Utica-Rome. Josh Coonradt finished third in his second race in the division with Carsen Rothwell fourth and Eric Jensen fifth.

On the inner oval, Dan Slosek won his second straight Senior Services Inc. All-Star Slingshot feature and Chase Spoor did the same with the Junior Slingshots.

The Winged Champ Racing Series also joined the Friday night affair, with Jeremy Tuttle topping the pro Winged Series and Steven Hulbert winning the Semi-Pro portion of the event.

Matt Chavis meanwhile topped the 20-lap Heavy Tire Predator feature event.

BACHETTI WINS FEATURE, LOMBARDO 358 TITLE

Big block modified track champion Andy Bachetti trailed LJ Lombardo by 10 points in the 358 modified standings heading into the final night of competition Saturday at Lebanon Valley Speedway.

Looking for a sweep of the modified titles, Bachetti gained all the points he could by winning the 24-lap feature. It was not enough as Lombardo followed Bachetti under the checkers in second to secure the 2023 358-modified track championship by six points. Jason Herrington finished third in the feature as well as in the points standings. Jeff Watson and Peter Carlotto round out the top five.

Whitey Slavin was first under the checkers Saturday in the 20-lap Sportsman feature, ahead of Tim Hartman Jr.

With his runner-up finish, Hartman secured his second-straight sportsman track championship.

However, the results of the sportsman feature are unofficial due to a technical issue with Slavin’s car.
