Superintendent is top earner for Saratoga Springs school district

SARATOGS SPRINGS – Saratoga Springs City School District Superintendent Michael Patton led the way for top earners in the district for the 2022-23 school year, with other administrators and principals rounding out the 10 highest paid employees.

Patton made $212,009 in 2022 — $8,800 more than his base salary of $203,209, according to data provided by the district in response to a Freedom of Information Law request.

Patton was named the superintendent of the district in 2017.

His salary is below that of Schenectady City School District Superintendent Anibal Soler Jr., who made $224,005 last year. It is also lower than that of Shenendehowa Central School District Superintendent L. Oliver Robinson’s budgeted $329,041 2022-23 salary, according to data from the state Education Department.

Both Schenectady and Shenendehowa serve nearly 10,000 students. Saratoga Springs school district is home to over 6,000 students.

Following Patton, Assistant Superintendent for Business Timothy Hilker is the next highest earner in the district, bringing home $181,248– just over $11,000 more than his base salary of $170,239.

Hilker earned the highest amount in extra pay among the top earners.

The extra pay was due to health insurance buy-outs, reimbursements for unused vacation time, the district said. There was also a car allowance for travel for the superintendent and assistant superintendents.

Two principals and one assistant principal also made the top earners list. Greer Miller-Dienst, the Division Street Elementary School principal, rounded out the top five earners on the list. She made $151,460–$4,250 above her base salary, according to the data provided.

High school principal Michelle Tsao ranked sixth on the list of earners, bringing home $2,575 above her base salary of $148,424.

Timothy Harris , the assistant principal for Maple Middle School, earned $134,573– $4,617 above is base salary.

The ranking of top earners is as follows:

  • Superintendent Michael Patton: total pay $212,009 (base salary $203,209)
  • Assistant Superintendent for Business Timothy Hilker: total pay $181,248 (base salary $170,239
  • Assistant Superintendent of Information Technology and Operational Innovation David L’Hommedieu: total pay $164,164 (base salary $156,835)
  • Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Lisa Cutting: total pay $157,040 (base salary $152,240)
  • Division Street Elementary Principal Greer Miller-Dienst: total pay $151,460 (base salary $147,210)
  • High School Principal Michelle Tsao: total pay $150,999 (base salary $148,424)
  • Director of Budget Joseph Greco: total pay $144,176 (base salary $135,521)
  • Director of Facilities John Thuener: total pay $135,809 (base salary $132,639
  • Assistant Principal of Maple Avenue Middle School Timothy Harris: total pay $134,573 (base salary $131,388)
  • Director of Personnel Development Hillary Brewer: total pay $133,418 (base salary $133,418)
