EDINBURG – A 40-year-old man drowned in the Great Sacandaga Lake Sunday, Saratoga County Sheriff’s officials said.

The man who died was not immediately identified, pending notification of next of kin.

The call came in just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday near Mountain Stream Lane in Edinburg, officials said.

The investigation determined that a 40-year-old man had attempted to swim from the shore about 40 yards to a waiting vessel, officials said.

The man was seen by a witness going underwater and not coming back up, officials said. The witness attempted to locate the man, but was unsuccessful.

The victim was ultimately located by SCUBA divers from the South Glens Falls Fire Department. They attempted to resuscitate him, but were unable to do so, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by numerous fire departments and EMS companies.

The incident remained under investigation.
