A Saratoga Springs firefighter was one of four people injured during a training exercise taking place near Colonie, city Public Safety Commissioner James Montagnino said Thursday.
The firefighter, a lieutenant, was not identified, but suffered first-degree burns, according to the commissioner.
Montagnino said they refused medical treatment.
Montagnino said two other firefighters suffered second-degree burns and another had third-degree burns. Those firefighters were taken to Albany Medical Center, according to the commissioner.
Montagnino said he heard the firefighter with third-degree burns was then taken to a burn center.
Details on the incident remain unclear at this time, including who was conducting the training.
However, Montagnino said the injuries occurred during a controlled-burn exercise.
“They were wearing protective gear, as I understand it,” Montagnino said.
He said he’s certain an investigation will be conducted into the incident.
