Saratoga Springs’ Frank makes big transfer — College Roundup

Saratoga Springs’ Lindsey Frank made a significant transfer for her graduate eligibility year.

Frank, a field hockey and lacrosse player who graduated from Richmond in the spring, transferred to Northwestern this year.

In field hockey, she was a two-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-South Region Second Team selection. Last year, she was an Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team after having a career-high eight goals along with five assists for 21 points. She finished three seasons at Richmond with 50 points on 17 goals and 16 assists in 56 games. Frank has played in the team’s first six games, starting four of them.

Frank is even more prolific in lacrosse, and the midfielder coincidentally joins the national-champion Wildcats. She was an All-American Honorable Mention last season, helping the Spiders earn their first Atlantic 10 championship since 2019. She was named the A10 tournament’s most outstanding player. She had 67 goals and 23 assists, and finished her career with 234 points (164-70), which ranks seventh in school history.

SUNY Plattsburgh’s Payton Zophy (Shenendehowa) was named the SUNYAC Defensive Player of the Week in women’s volleyball for the period ending Sept. 3. Zophy, a senior outside hitter/libero, averaged a league-best 5.17 digs per set in a 3-0 opening weekend at Plattsburgh’s Cardinal Classic.

Through her first six matches, Saint Michael’s freshman middle blocker Grace Almeida (Shenendehowa) leads the Purple Knights’ women’s volleyball team in solo blocks (6) and total blocks (22). She also has 37 kills.

Coast Guard junior linebacker Alejandro Christopher (Amsterdam) made five solo tackles and one assisted in the Bears’ 44-28 loss to the University of New England on Sept. 2. That included one sack for a loss of 1 yard. He had one assisted tackle in the Bears’ 93-24 win over Anna Maria on Sept. 9.

University of Rochester junior Sean Hendricks (Rexford/CBA) led the Yellowjackets’ men’s cross country team at the Highlander XC Short Course Invitational by placing fourth. His time for the 4-kilometer course was 12:10.54.

SUNY Oswego women’s soccer player Shayna Connally (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), a senior forward, scored a goal against SUNY Canton on Sept. 5.

Also at SUNY Oswego, sophomore men’s golfer Evan McDonald (Shenendehowa) shot a 79 in the one-round Clarkson Invitational on Sept. 5.

SUNY Oneonta freshman Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa) scored her first collegiate goal for the women’s soccer team in the Red Dragons’ 2-0 win over Keene State on Sept. 9.

SUNY Cobleskill junior cross country runner Katherine Ledermann (Guilderland) placed third at the Fighting Tigers’ own Steven A. Warde Invitational on Sept. 9. Her time for the 3.7-mile course was 25:43.53.

Russell Sage sophomore defender Courtney Bush (Mohonasen) was selected the Empire 8 Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 10. Bush, a second-team All-Conference pick as a freshman, scored the lone goal in the Gators’ 1-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State on Sept. 10, and also helped the defense allow just six shots, including only one on-goal.

Saint Rose women’s volleyball player Juliana Venduro (Guilderland) has played in all seven matches, started five and delivered 45 kills.

SUNY Fredonia junior goalie Dani Rubino (Mechanicville) has started all four games for the women’s soccer team. She has a 2.25 goals against average and a .690 save percentage.

William Smith women’s soccer player Julia DiMenna (Saratoga Springs), in her graduate season, has scored two goals in four games started for the Herons.
