Man faces murder charge following street fight in Albany

City police said they arrested Antoni Williams, 25, of Elk Street, on a charge of second-degree murd

City police said they arrested Antoni Williams, 25, of Elk Street, on a charge of second-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed and killed Alfredo Tirado in a street confrontation Saturday night.

According to police, Williams stabbed Tirado after the two had an argument over a woman Williams was allegedly harassing. Police said that Tirado intervened earlier this week, and that Williams and a friend confronted Tirado Saturday night and attacked him.

Tirado was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

Police said they later found Williams hiding at a house on Elk Street. Police said they believe that his friend played some role in the attack, but that it was Williams who stabbed Tirado.

The second suspect remained at large this afternoon. Williams was remanded without bail to the Albany County Jail.

Tirado’s murder was the city’s first in 2008, police said.
