A Fort Hunter man was killed Tuesday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding crashed while he was trying to avoid a car at the corner of Union Street and Glen Avenue.
City police spokesman Det. Lt. Thomas DiMezza said David Rivera, 50, was riding west on Union Street at a high rate of speed when another vehicle driven by Pablo Rodriguez, 20, of Academy Street, pulled out from Glen Avenue. DiMezza said Rivera laid down the bike to attempt to avoid a collision but struck his head on the front bumper of the car.
DiMezza said Rivera was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, where he died.
Police are investigating, but DiMezza said initial indications are that speed was the main factor in the crash.
