Whitley tapped to lead NYISO

The board of directors of the New York Independent System Operator has named Stephen Whitley preside

The board of directors of the New York Independent System Operator has named Stephen Whitley president and chief executive officer.

NYISO operates New York’s bulk electricity grid, administers the state’s wholesale electricity markets and performs comprehensive reliability planning for the state’s bulk electricity system.

Whitley is a 38-year veteran of the energy industry, with experience in bulk power system planning and operations. He worked for seven years as the senior vice president and chief operating officer of ISO New England. Before that, he completed a 30-year career with the Tennessee Valley Authority, where he last served as general manager.

NYISO officials said Whitley’s selection was the result of a nationwide search conducted for the NYISO board by Heidrick & Struggles, an executive search company.

“I welcome the opportunity to work with the NYISO’s employees, stakeholders and government officials as we build upon the good work already accomplished by this talented group of industry professionals,” Whitley said.
