Four local teenagers are to face misdemeanor criminal mischief charges after city police say they vandalized numerous area items with spray paint on Saturday.
The names of the teenagers, who were all 14 or 15, are not being released due to their ages. Police said residents contacted police after observing the teenagers spraypainting telephone poles, signs and trees on Coolidge Road.
Officers responded and located the youths on Lindbergh Avenue as the teenagers continued to spray graffiti there. Police detained the teenagers and said they found six spray paint cans the youths had been using.
The teens were transported to the police station and were picked up by their parents, according to police.
Police investigated numerous area properties and found vandalism and damaged mailboxes, flower planters, hanging baskets, driveway reflectors and lawn ornaments. The vandalism spree occurred in nine area streets near Lindbergh and Coolidge, police said.
Amsterdam police said Sunday that the youths will soon be charged by the city's youth officer.
