A fugitive wanted on attempted murder charges in Ohio and thought to be hiding out in Amsterdam was captured in Illinois, authorities said today.
Eusebio Martinez, 20 of Toledo, Ohio, was arrested by U.S. marshals in Aurora, Ill., as he slept on a sofa about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Martinez was being sought after police in Toledo said he shot two people outside a club in early July. Martinez had frequently lived in Amsterdam and an initial investigation showed Amsterdam as the likely place Martinez was hiding, so an extensive manhunt was launched there, with information from that manhunt eventually leading to his capture.
Another fugitive, Edmundo Ruiz, who was wanted by the FBI in Toledo on narcotics charges, was also arrested without incident in the same apartment. A handgun was recovered during the arrest.
