City police say a Gloversville man robbed the Subway restaurant at 1491 State St. this morning.
City police spokesman Lt. Brian Kilcullen said Paul St. Pierre, 27, of 64 Montgomery St., walked into the shop about 8 a.m., put a knife to a clerk's neck and demanded money, taking cash from the store's cash register before fleeing in a sport-utility vehicle.
Kilcullen said Rotterdam police connected the robbery to an overnight burglary that included the theft of a Hyundai Santa Fe. Rotterdam police learned that the stolen vehicle was parked at Steinmetz Homes in Schenectady, and officers from both departments took St. Pierre into custody as he made his way toward the vehicle with a small quantity of heroin.
St. Pierre was charged with felony first-degree robbery and misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned this afternoon in City Court and sent to the Schenectady County jail on $10,000 bail.
