Amsterdam cop injured during foot chase

An Amsterdam police officer was injured this morning during a foot pursuit, police said.

A city police officer was injured this morning during a foot pursuit, police said.

Officer Steve Ryder slipped on wet grass and injured his shoulder while dodging an object thrown at him by the subject of the chase, Det. Lt. Thomas DiMezza said. Ryder was treated at St. Mary’s Hospital and released.

The suspect, identified as John Davila, of Edson Street, got away from officers but later turned himself in.

He was sought after a dispute with his girlfriend during which he took her cellphone and refused to leave, DiMezza said.

Davila was charged with one count each of second-degree assault, a felony, resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and trespassing. He was to be arraigned this morning in City Court.
