Goaltenders

MATHIAS LANGE

PERSONAL: 23 years old, 5-11, 180 pounds, catches left. HOMETOWN: Klag­enfurt, Austria. CLASS: Senior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 31.

Lange had a 6-14-3 record last season, but had a good goals-against average (2.47) and save percentage (.916), so it certainly wasn’t his fault that the Engineers struggled. He made a career-high 53 saves in a 3-2 triple-overtime loss to Yale in Game 1 of the first round of the ECACH tournament. He had a 34-save effort in a 2-1 win over

nationally ranked Harvard Dec. 4. Lange was named the team’s most valuable player, and was also named to the Lighting Classic all-tournament team.

ALLEN YORK

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 6-3, 175 pounds, catches left. HOMETOWN: Wetaskiwin, Alberta. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 30.

York joins the Engineers from the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Camrose Kodiaks. Last season, York was 24-5-3 with a 2.24 GAA and three shutouts. The prev­ious season, he was 23-4 with 2.17 GAA and three shutouts. York was selected in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL draft by the Col­umbus Blue Jackets.

Defensemen

MIKE BERGIN

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 6-3, 200 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Ottawa. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 8.

Bergin comes to RPI from the Smiths Falls Bears of the Central Junior Hockey League, where he played for three seasons. He had 16 goals and 32 assists, along with 79 penalty minutes, last year. Bergin was a three-time league all-star. He was selected by the Dallas Stars in the seventh round of June’s draft.

BRYAN BRUTLAG

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 5-11, 180 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Lake­ville, Minn. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 4.

Brutlag played in 36 games last season, and had three goals and nine assists. He scored his first collegiate goal against Miami (Ohio) Dec. 15, and also had an assist in that game. Brutlag had a three-point scoring streak (two goals, one assist)

Jan. 27-Feb. 1.

ERIK BURGDOERFER

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 6-2, 210 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: East Setauket. CLASS: Junior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 2.

Burgdoerfer appeared in 32 games, and had two goals and three assists. He had a two-point game (one goal, one assist) against St. Lawrence Feb. 22.

JEFF FOSS

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 6-2, 200 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Moorhead, Minn. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 7.

Foss had a goal and three assists in 38 games last season. He scored the goal on Nov. 30 at Princeton, a short-handed tally. His steady defensive play got noticed by the Nashville Predators, who picked him in the sixth round of the NHL draft.

CHRISTIAN JENSEN

PERSONAL: 22 years old, 6-3, 200 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Watchung, N.J. CLASS: Junior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 3.

Jensen had two goals and five assists in 31 games last year. He had a two-assist game against Army Oct. 19. Jensen was

selected in the ninth round of the 2004 NHL draft by the San Jose Sharks.

JOHN KENNEDY

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 6-0, 195 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Saginaw, Mich. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 5.

Kennedy appeared in 26 games last season, and didn’t record a point. He missed eight straight games (Nov. 9-Dec. 15) because of a hand injury. Kennedy had 16 penalty minutes. His middle name is the same as the late President John Kennedy — Fitzgerald.

PETER MERTH

PERSONAL: 21 years old, 6-3, 225 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: New Westminster, British Columbia. CLASS: Junior.

UNIFORM NUMBER: 6.

The rugged Merth played in all 38 games last season, and had three goals and 10 assists. He tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. The first came against Colgate in the Governor’s Cup championship game Oct. 27. It was also his first col­legiate goal. His second game-winner came against St. Lawrence Jan. 26. Merth had a two-point game (one goal, one assist) against Brown Feb. 29. He was named the team’s best defensive player. Merth will be an assistant captain.

MARK ZARBO

PERSONAL: 21 years old, 6-0, 185 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Grand Island. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 25.

Zarbo sat out last season after transferring from Bentley. He had a goal and six assists in 34 games with Bentley in 2006-07. His goal, a power-play tally at Air Force Oct. 20, 2006, was his first collegiate point. Zarbo played for the Capital District Sel­ects in 2005-06.

Forwards

ALEX ANGERS-GOULET

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 5-10, 185 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: St. Aug­ustin, Quebec. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 18.

Angers-Goulet, the brother of senior forward Matt Angers-Goulet, joins RPI from the British Columbia Junior Hockey League’s Langley Chiefs. He had 19 goals and 36 assists, and was named the team’s most valuable player.

MATT ANGERS-GOULET

PERSONAL: 22 years old, 5-11, 190 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: St. Aug­ustin, Quebec. CLASS: Senior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 22.

Angers-Goulet had eight goals and six assists on 37 games last year. Two of his goals were game-winners, at Army Oct. 19, and at Dartmouth Nov. 10. He scored two goals in that Dartmouth game. Angers-Goulet will be the team captain.

KEVIN BEAUREGARD

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 6-3, 225 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: South Windsor, Conn. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 20.

Beauregard didn’t play a game for the Engineers last season. He played for the Hartford Junior WolfPack of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League in 2006-07. He was second on the Wolf Pack in scoring with 17 goals and 28 assists.

KURT COLLING

PERSONAL: 23 years old, 6-1, 190 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Ripley, Ontario. CLASS: Senior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 23.

Colling had a goal and five assists in 37 games last season. His goal came against Notre Dame in the consolation game of the Lightning Classic Dec. 30. Colling had a two-assist game at Dartmouth Nov. 10.

BEN CONTINI

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 6-0, 190 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Toronto. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 26.

Contini had a goal and three assists last season. His goal came against Boston College in the consolation game of the Ice Breaker Tournament Oct. 13.

PATRICK CULLEN

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 6-0, 193 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Washington. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 19.

Cullen comes to RPI from the U.S. Hockey League’s Indianapolis Ice. He had eight goals and 18 assists in 58 games. Before the Ice, Cullen played for the Washington Junior Nationals of the Atlantic Junior Hockey League, where he was an All-AJHL second team selection.

SCOTT HALPERN

PERSONAL: 21 years old, 5-10, 180 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Boca Raton, Fla. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 10.

Halpern had five goals and four assists in 29 games last year. He scored his first collegiate goal Jan. 18 against Union. He had a goal and an assist Feb. 8 against Dartmouth. Halpern scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory at Brown Feb. 29.

TYLER HELFRICH

PERSONAL: 21 years old, 5-11, 190 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Calgary, Alberta. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 15.

Helfrich was the Engineers’ leading scorer last season with nine goals and 20 assists. He tied for the team lead with two game-winning goals. Helfrich had two assists in his collegiate debut against Bentley Oct. 9. His first goal was a game-winner in overtime against Sacred Heart Oct. 20.

He had a pair of three-point games on the road, against Dartmouth (three assists) Nov. 10, and against St. Lawrence (one goal, two assists) Jan. 28. Helfrich tormented

St. Lawrence with two goals Feb. 22.

PAUL KERINS

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 5-10, 175 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Weston, Ontario. CLASS: Junior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 11.

Kerins collected four goals and six assists in 28 games last season. He scored a short-handed goal against Colorado College Dec. 29. Kerins had a goal and an assist against Army Oct. 19.

SETH KLERER

PERSONAL: 23 years old, 5-10, 175 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Thornhill, Ontario. CLASS: Senior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 16.

Klerer had a rough junior year, scoring just three goals in 33 games after collecting nine goals and 21 assists the previous season. He scored a short-handed goal at Quinnipiac Dec. 1. He missed five games last season after sitting out just one game in his first two years. Klerer will be an assistant captain this season.

JOEL MALCHUK

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 5-10, 170 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Brandon, Manitoba. CLASS: Sophomore.

UNIFORM NUMBER: 13.

Malchuk had two assists in six games last season. One of those assists came at Princeton Nov. 30. Unfortunately, that was Malchuk’s last game of the season, as he suffered a knee injury.

CHRISTIAN MORISSETTE

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 5-10, 180 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: Beaconsfield, Quebec. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 36.

Morissette, who is no relation to former RPI forward Jake Morissette, comes to RPI from the U.S. Hockey League’s Green Bay Gamblers last season. He had eight goals and 19 assists.

CHASE POLACEK

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 5-8, 180 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Edina, Minn. CLASS: Sophomore. UNIFORM NUMBER: 21.

Polacek was the team’s second-leading scorer last season with seven goals and 21 assists. He led the team in league scoring with four goals and 13 assists. He had a pair of one-goal, three-assist games, both on the road — at Dartmouth (Nov. 10) and at St. Lawrence (Jan. 28). Polacek was named to the ECACH All-Rookie team.

JOSH RABBANI

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 5-11, 205 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Woodland Hills, Calif. CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM

NUMBER: 9.

Rabbani comes to RPI from the North American Hockey League’s St. Louis Bandits, where he had 24 goals and 36 assists. The Bandits won the NAHL’s Robertson Cup title last season. Before going to St. Louis, Rabbani attended Berkshire Prep for three years. He led the team in scoring in

2005-06 and 2006-07, and was the team’s MVP in 2005-06.

JUSTIN SMITH

PERSONAL: 20 years old, 6-2, 205 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia. CLASS: Freshman.

UNIFORM NUMBER: 17.

Smith comes to RPI from the BCJHL’s Langley Chiefs. He had 13 goals and 10 assists. Smith won the Chiefs’ Bess and Cliff Brew Award for most dedicated player.

ANDREI URYADOV

PERSONAL: 22 years old, 6-0, 195 pounds, shoots left. HOMETOWN: St. Petersburg, Russia. CLASS: Senior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 27.

Uryadov was RPI’s third-leading scorer with seven goals and 12 assists last season. He scored two goals in the season-opener against Bentley Oct. 9. Uryadov had a goal and two assists at Dartmouth Nov. 10.

He led the team with 89 penalty minutes, which included three game misconducts and one 10-minute misconduct.

GARETT VASSEL

PERSONAL: 23 years old, 6-2, 195 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Westhampton. CLASS: Junior. UNIFORM NUMBER: 12.

After two years of splitting time between forward and defense, Vassel will play forward this season. He had two goals and an assist in 31 games last year. His goals came against Cornell Jan. 11 and at Yale in Game 1 of the ECACH tournament’s first round March 7.

JORDAN WATTS

PERSONAL: 19 years old, 5-9, 175 pounds, shoots right. HOMETOWN: Oakville, Ontario.

CLASS: Freshman. UNIFORM NUMBER: 33.

Watts comes to the Engineers from the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League’s Aurora Tigers. He had 23 goals and 36 assists last season, along with 103 penalty minutes. Watts was on the Tigers when they won the 2007 Royal Bank Cup title, Canada’s national Junior “A” hockey championship.
