The Fucillo Auto Group has moved its Amsterdam location from the city to the town after buying one of its competitors.
Fuccillo moved its Jeep dealership and used car inventory from 328 Division St. to the former Amsterdam Chrysler Dodge on Route 30 north of the city, across from the Raindancer restaurant. The deal to purchase Amsterdam Chrysler Dodge was made about three months ago, according to corporate General Manager George Zenner
"We're going to have Chrystler, Dodge, Jeep and a huge used car supercenter up there," Zenner said. "It's a very positive move for us."
Zenner said Fuccillo had operated the Division Street dealership for the last 13 years.
"We're growing in the area, and [company owner] Billy [Fucillo] thought it would be better to move to a bigger space," Zenner said.
The Division Street location had 23 employees, and Zenner said there was no plans for layoffs, with employees being moved within the company.
"We're all looking forward to the move," Zenner said. "We're moving to a more modern facility, which is going to improve relations with our customers."
The new location has a larger, cleaner and more up to date service department, Zenner said, along with three acres of property so the company can show more cars. The Division Street dealership sat on less than an acre and didn't have an active body shop.
The move is pretty much complete, Zenner said. Employees spent Monday moving merchandise to the new location.
"We're pretty much shut down already. I'm just cleaning out the building now," Zenner said.
The future of the Division Street property, which is owned by Fuccillo, is unknown, Zenner said, explaining that Billy Fuccillo is looking to sell or lease the property.
