Shondaya Burrell, a 5-9 senior guard from Colonie who was expected to be a key player for the Siena’s women’s basketball team this season, has been suspended indefinitely from the squad.
Burrell, who averaged 13.9 points per game last season, was removed from the team for “violating College policy,” according to a Siena press release.
“This is unfortunate, but it is the right thing to do,” Siena Director of Athletics John D’Argenio said. “Suspending someone from something that they deeply enjoy doing is not a decision that is made lightly, but actions have consequences. Part of our mission is to teach our students responsibility and accountability.”
“We have always talked to our team about the importance of making good hoices and winning the right way,” Siena head coach Gina Castelli said. “Although we are greatly disappointed, I’m confident we will move forward, learn a valuable lesson and enjoy a successful season.”
