Tyler Carpenter ran for his fifth touchdown with 62 seconds left, going 43 yards to cap a huge performance while lifting Fort Edward over Canaj­oharie, 50-42, in a Section II Class D semifinal game Saturday.

Carpenter ran for 364 yards on 38 carries, accounted for a trio of two-point conversions, and also threw a touchdown pass to Bob Phillips as Fort Edward (6-3) beat Canajoharie (5-4) for the second time and three weeks. The Flying Forts, two-time defending Class D champs, will meet Rensselaer (8-1) next Saturday at 1 at Glens Falls.

Payton Stahler’s 12-yard touchdown pass to Dane O’Neil, and his two-point pass to Josh Hill, pulled Canajoharie within 44-42 in the fourth quarter before Carpenter answered.

Stahler ran for a touchdown and threw for two in 259-yard passing effort.

COHOES — Bret Mellon fired two of his three touchdown passes to Isaiah Thomas, and Joe McMurry scored twice as Hudson Falls ended Cohoes’ season in a Section II Class B semifinal game.

McMurry scored on a run and a pass, and totaled 183 rushing yards on 41 carries to help propel the

Tigers (8-1) to their first title game since 2002. Hudson Falls will face Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk (7-2) Saturday at 3 at Amsterdam Middle School.

Steve Weaver scored a pair of touchdowns for Cohoes (8-1), which came in ranked No. 11 in the state. Hudson Falls is ranked No. 15.

CAIRO — Derrick Pitts set Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons records with 302 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 27 carries, and the Golden Knights reached six victories for the first time since 1972.

Pitts, a junior quarterback/running back, tied seven others for third place on the all-time Section II list with 42 single-game points.

Bishop Gibbons (6-3) won a total of six games over the last five seasons. Trevor Gillen also scored for ND-BG, which gave gave up a late touchdown on a kickoff return.
