If goaltending was supposed to be a question mark for Harvard this season, freshman Matt Hoyle is providing the answer.

Hoyle allowed just one goal for the second straight game and finished with 27 saves Tuesday night to lead the Crimson to a 3-1 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic

Institute at the Bright Hockey Center, spoiling the Engineers’ ECACH opener.

Junior defenseman Alex Biega scored what proved to be the game-winner at 6:48 of the third period for the Crimson (2-0, 2-0), and Pier-Olivier Michaud added an empty-netter to put the game away.

Freshman John Rabbani’s power-play goal at 15:08 of the third period cut Harvard’s lead to 2-1, but the Engineers (0-1, 1-5-1) couldn’t get the equalizer.

The two teams will play again Friday night at Houston Field House.
