State fire investigators will be on the scene this morning trying to determine what started a fire early Wednesday afternoon that killed an elderly Route 30 resident.
State Police Investigator Thomas Gibley said the woman, whose name will not be released until this morning, was trapped on the first floor of her home as fire engulfed it shortly after 1 p.m.
Gibley said the cause remains under investigation, but noted it appears accidental and may have been related to the heating system.
A neighbor called in the fire. Gibley said two family members were in the garage and did not notice their home was burning. The house was fully engulfed in flames as fi refighters arrived.
The home is located only about 500 feet north of the Hope Firehouse. Gibley said fi refighters responded quickly, but the fire had already spread and grown when they arrived.
