An Amsterdam man tied to a burglary three years after it happened admitted to the break-in Friday in Montgomery County Court.

Donald W. Gray, 28, of 271 Mc-Queen Road, pleaded guilty to third-degree burglary, District Attorney James “Jed” Conboy said.

Gray admitted to breaking into the concession stand at the Hagaman ballfield on or about Aug. 16, 2005. He stole $15 from the cash register and apparently tried to set it on fire afterward, authorities said.

While processing the scene, investigators from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department collected a cigarette butt, and a crime lab analysis turned up Gray’s DNA that was in a database from a prior crime.

Gray is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 9 to a year in jail, Conboy said.
