Montgomery County jail inmate accused of biting guard

An inmate in the Montgomery County jail has been accused of biting a corrections officer.

An inmate in the Montgomery County jail has been accused of biting a corrections officer.

Sheriff's deputies said Jorge A. Rivera, 34, of 234 E. Main St., Amsterdam, got into an altercation with another inmate on Nov. 15, then became combative while being transported to St. Mary's Hospital for evaluation. Police allege Rivera bit the unidentified officer in the hand while being taken to the hospital.

The officer was treated in the St. Mary's emergency room and released, deputies said.

It was unclear Friday what charges led to Rivera's incarceration, but he was charged with felony second-degree assault for the alleged attack.

Rivera was charged in 2004 with second-degree assault after allegedly trying to attack a corrections officer with a pen during a different stint in the county jail.
