About 6,000 Capital Region homes and businesses remain without power on the sixth day after an ice storm hit.

National Grid is reporting about 4,000 customers still without service this evening, according to its Storm Central web page at //www.nationalgridus.com/niagaramohawk/, including about 1,700 in Albany County, 1,450 in Rensselaer County, 350 in Schenectady County and 270 in Washington County. National Grid expects to have service restored to all customers by Thursday night.

New York State Electric & Gas reports about 6,000 customers remain without power in its Mechanicville Division, which includes parts of Saratoga, Washington, Rensselaer and Columbia counties. That utility expects to have service restored by noon Thursday.

Meanwhile, officials from the American Red Cross have closed all of their local shelters.
