Crossgates mall plans to relocate Dick’s Sporting Goods to the former Lord & Taylor space, which the shopping center’s Syracuse owner recently purchased after seeing it stand vacant for four years.
Crossgates officials met Tuesday with Guilderland’s chief building inspector to review the permits it would need to relocate the anchor retailer. The move would provide Dick’s, which now operates a single-floor store, with a much-larger two-floor space.
“They’re going to move Dick’s over to the old Lord & Taylor space,” said Guilderland Chief Building Inspector Donald Cropsey.
The Pyramid Cos., which owns the Guilderland mall, last month acquired two vacant anchor spaces owned by Macy’s Inc. The $9.5 million deal included the Lord & Taylor space, which closed in 2005, and the space Macy’s vacated a year later, when it relocated to the former Filene’s at an opposite end of the mall.
Cropsey did not know what the mall’s plans are for the space that Dick’s will vacate. When asked about the mall’s plans for the newly acquired Macy’s properties, Pyramid spokesman Earl Wells said in a Tuesday e-mail, “At this time the company is not prepared to discuss its plans for the properties.”
