Mohonasen girls win thriller, 42-40

Michelle Aviza’s layup with less than a second to play gave Mohonasen a 42-40 win over Bethlehem in a Suburban Council girls’ basketball game Friday night.

Nicole Adach came up with a steal as the clock wound down and found Aviza for the winning basket, as Mohonasen improved to 8-2 in the league and 12-1 overall.

Aviza finsihed with 13 points. Lea McLain led the Mighty Warriors with 15.

Megan Olsen’s 17 points paced the 7-4 Eagles.

Shenendehowa hit double figures in both overtimes to shake off Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 46-38.

The teams battled to a 25-25 tie through regulation, before the 9-1 Plainsmen scored 10 in the first OT and 11 in the second extra session.

Roz Alexander led Shenendehowa with 14 points. Allie Setter added 12, and Marissa Ray had another 11.

Georgina Farrow led the Spartans with 20 points.

Staci McElroy dropped in 16 points, and Saratoga Springs held Niskayuna scoreless in the fourth quarter to pull out a 34-31 Suburban win.

Victoria Wilson scored all seven of her points in the fourth as the Bllue Streaks came from 10 points down to win.

Alaina Greco tossed in 14 points, and Marissa Traver added 12 as Ballston Spa downed Shaker, 49-38.

Angelica Smith led the Blue Bison with 11 points.

Gabi Regan scored 17 points, as Columbia upset Averill Park, 60-54.

Liz Nunziato scored 20 points, and Brooke O’Shea added 15 for the 8-3 Warriors, playing without leading scorer Katie Duma.

Antonia Williams scored 20 points, and Sheila Dixon added 18, as Schenectady beat Catholic Central, 56-49, for its third Big 10 win this week.

Carissa Cromwell also helped out, going 8-for-8 at the line as Schen­ectady went to 8-0 in the league and 15-1 overall.

Colleen Dignum, Carly LaBombard and Maria Foglia all had 10 points for 4-4 Catholic Central.

Danielle Comley had 16 points to lead four players in double figures as Scotia-Glenville beat Hudson Falls, 62-35, in the Foothills Council.

Laura Coderre added 15 points, and both Cassie Broadhead and Sarah Janson had 14, with Janson making all 10 of her free throws for the Tartans, 4-5 in the league.

Avery Light’s 18 points led three players in double figures as Broadalbin-Perth edged Queensbury, 53-52, in the Foothills Council.

Michelle Murphy (17 points) and Liz Ferlazzo (12) also had big contributions for the Pats. Danielle Bell led the Spartans with 10 points.

Ali Brayton scored 14 points, and Chelsea Jordan added 10, as Cobleskill-Richmondville topped Watervliet, 47-23, in the Colonial Council.

Ailayia Demand was best for the Cannoneers, scoring 13 points.

Chelsea Rebhun’s 18 points led a balanced Lansingburgh offense, as the Knights downed Cohoes, 62-53. Alyssa Fane (16 points) and Tina Johnston (11) also helped the 9-3 Knights.

Meg Keeler led the 8-5 Tigers with 16 points.

Alivia Richter finished with 17 points, and her sister, Haley, added 16, as Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk edged Mechanicville, 51-47.

Haley Richter went 10-for-12 from the foul line. Alysa Russell led the Red Raiders with 16 points.

Chelsea Jones had a triple-double, scoring 20 points, taking down 19 rebounds and blocking 10 shots to lead Northville past Saratoga Central Catholic, 33-24. Paul is 14 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Ashlyn Slater had 17 points, and Rachel Brush added 14 as Schenectady Christian School held off Sharon Springs, 48-44.

Paula Egleston had a triple-double as Fonda-Fultonville bested St. Johnsville, 68-27. Egleston finished with 24 points, 19 rebounds and 10 steals for the Braves (8-0, 12-1).

Sonni Pank scored 12 points, all on three-pointers, as Canajoharie slipped past Schoharie, 41-38. Sarah Lamoureaux had 14 points for the Indians.

Andrea VanDyke had 18 points as Berne-Knox-Westerlo topped Middleburgh, 56-30.

Brittany Smith scored 21 points as Tamarac topped Schuylerville, 48-45; and Emily Eddy’s 14 points got Greenwich past Granville, 48-37, in the Wasaren League.

Lydia Jones scored 12 points, and Hartford held Corinth to eight second-half points to take an Adirondack League win.
