Memorial Day isn’t officially observed until Monday, but local communities will begin celebrating the holiday this week.
In an effort to honor those who died in their nation’s service, a variety of parades, services and ceremonies will take place throughout the week, over the long weekend and even into next weekend.
The village of Scotia’s annual Memorial Parade begins at 6:15 p.m. today on Mohawk Avenue, followed by a memorial service in Collins Park by the library. Mohawk Avenue will be closed from 5:45 p.m. until the parade ends.
Saratoga Springs’ annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 6:30 on North Broadway and proceed south and into Congress Park where a brief ceremony will be held. The parade is sponsored this year by the Italian American War Veterans Post.
The Town of Waterford Memorial Day Parade will begin at 7 p.m. at Clifton Street and proceed to Saratoga Avenue to Soldier and Sailor Park at the end of Troy-Waterford Bridge, where memorial services will begin.
