Scotia, Saratoga Springs, Waterford parades set this evening

Three parades will kick off today to celebrate Memorial Day.

Memorial Day isn’t officially observed until Monday, but local communities will begin celebrating the holiday this week.

In an effort to honor those who died in their nation’s service, a variety of parades, services and ceremonies will take place throughout the week, over the long weekend and even into next weekend.

The village of Scotia’s annual Memorial Parade begins at 6:15 p.m. today on Mohawk Avenue, followed by a memorial service in Collins Park by the library. Mohawk Avenue will be closed from 5:45 p.m. until the parade ends.

Saratoga Springs’ annual Memorial Day Parade will begin at 6:30 on North Broadway and proceed south and into Congress Park where a brief ceremony will be held. The parade is sponsored this year by the Italian American War Veterans Post.

The Town of Waterford Memorial Day Parade will begin at 7 p.m. at Clifton Street and proceed to Saratoga Avenue to Soldier and Sailor Park at the end of Troy-Waterford Bridge, where memorial services will begin.
