Saratoga County Sheriff's deputies said a local man shot a dog in an attempt to stop its attack on a neighbor and her dog late Friday afternoon.
The incident started when a pit bull-boxer mix owned by Adriane Rickson of 95 Greenfield Ave, began attacking a dog owned by Lori Polerstock in her front yard at 97 Greenfield Ave. Polerstock attempted to separate the animals and was attacked by the dog.
Neighbor Dave Cook punched the dog but it continued the attack. Cook took a rifle from his truck and shot the dog, but the attack continued and he shot it again. It retreated to its owner’s home then, according to responding deputies.
Polerstock was taken to Saratoga Hospital with puncture wounds to her left arm and wrist. Cook was also injured in the attack and indicated he would seek treatment for a possible broken hand.
Rickson was cited for allowing a dog to run at large and for having an unlicensed animal. Both dogs involved in the altercation received emergency medical treatment at local veterinarians and are expected to recover.
