ATHENS -- Police say two trucks collided in the Hudson Valley after one veered across a state Thruway median, killing the drivers and closing the southbound highway for hours.
Troopers say the crash happened at around 11:30 a.m.today in the Greene County town of Athens, between Exits 21B and 21, about 25 miles south of Albany.
The state police Thruway detail in Albany says the two truck drivers died. Their names are being withheld until relatives are contacted.
Police say both southbound lanes of Interstate 87 are still closed late this afternoon. Southbound traffic is being detoured off the highway at Exit 21B near Coxsackie. Northbound traffic was also disrupted at times.
Troopers say one truck was a box truck and the other a garbage hauler. No other details are immediately available.
