An Amsterdam woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly went

An Amsterdam woman has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she allegedly went to bed, mistakenly leaving one of her children asleep in her mini-van.

Carmen Hernandez, of James Street, was charged early Thursday morning.

Police said they found a 4-year-old boy crying and banging on the locked door of the house when they arrived about 1:15 a.m. Thursday. The officers, getting no response when they knocked on the home's front and rear doors, ultimately called in the city's Fire Department, which hoisted a ladder to an upstairs porch.

Hernandez and her five other children were found sleeping inside the home.
