Man accused of stealing credit cards at St. Peter's Hospital

Detectives from the Albany Police Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested a 50-year-old Albany man

Detectives from the Albany Police Criminal Investigation Unit have arrested a 50-year-old Albany man for stealing credit cards out of victims’ purses from rooms inside St. Peter’s Hospital.

Michael Frechette, of 592 Central Avenue, was charged with three counts of grand larceny, fourth degree, and identify theft, second degree, in connection with three separate reported incidents at the hospital.

On May 31, June 12 and June 16 he allegedly entered a hospital room and stole a woman’s purse that contained a credit cards. Once he was in possession of the credit card, he would assume the identity of that person and charged items on the card, police said.

After the incidents were reported, detectives were able to piece together the string of larcenies with the assistance of bank and hospital security.

Frechette was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court.
